Building and Unbuilding the Globe
In 2009 artist Eric Lee completed a spectacular 9 panel painting as part of a project called " Building and Unbuilding the Globe" Each panel measures 4 feet high by 2 feet wide, such that the depiction of each elevator is 4'x6' and the entire piece spans almost 20 feet in length. The first showing was at the October 2, 2009 opening of State Street Gallery in Madison, WI.
"Mixed processes were used to gain the many and varied visual and textural effects, including the use of ashes, sawdust, concrete, chalk, toilet paper, house paint, spray paint, and ignited gunpowder" says the artist. "My paintings are based entirely on my personal relationship with the rust-belt city of Superior, Wisconsin where I lived off and on throughout my twenties."
