Finishing Options
Old Globe reclaimed floors are available in several surfacing options: Original Face, Rustic, Patina, and Smooth.
Original Face
Old Globe's "Original Face" surface is popular with artisans and installers who wish to sand and finish themselves, or who have an application for an authentic rough sawn surface.
Rustic
In order to achieve our signature "Rustic" look, each and every board is carefully hand sanded by our craftsmen to preserve the patina and character. Several coats of penetrating oil are applied and rubbed out by hand over a number of days.
Patina
Old Globe's hand-sanded "Patina" surface is smoother than "Rustic" but still retains much of the reclaimed wood's original character, including circular saw marks, square nail holes, and ferrous or blue staining.
Smooth Planed
Old Globe's "Smooth" surface is machine-planed and sanded for a less rustic look, yet still offers the character of old-growth reclaimed wood.
Old Globe reclaimed floors are available with several pre-finishing options, which include hand-rubbed penetrating oil and low-VOC polyurethane. Stain colors are also available. By combining these surfacing and finishing options, we are able to achieve different looks and different gloss levels.
